Registration 2020-2021
Welcome Back!
Thank you for your patience as we have worked hard to develop our 2020-2021 program to meet the needs of all of our families. We are pleased to offer two options for catechists this year.
Please note that both options will utilize our regular textbook series, via the online platform “My Catholic Faith Delivered” (https://www.mycatholicfaithdelivered.com/), to be accessed from home to complete weekly lessons. Using a “flipped classroom'' approach, students will complete online lessons weekly at home, then meet with their catechists and other students regularly to discuss, clarify, and build community. Students in both programs will connect to the liturgy via the development and use of a sacred space in the classroom and a “Family Altar” sacred space at home.
For Option 1, Online/In Person Hybrid, we will split the children into two groups per grade. These groups will meet with their catechist in alternating weeks, one group one week, then another the next. This will allow us to follow gathering guidelines in both Phase 1 & 2. The catechist's time with students will be spent reviewing the lessons covered in the online lesson that were completed at home, and gathering around the sacred space to pray together and connect to specific liturgical themes, which will be given in advance. Catechists will be able to access My Catholic Faith Delivered to monitor student progress, in terms of lessons completed and results of quizzes. Additionally, our classes will still meet on Mondays, but we will adjust our time to begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. and end at 7:00 p.m. (1 hour), in this way we can give families time to get to class, given the late dismissal of some of our younger children from school, yet not extend our meeting time too late in the evening.
For Option 2, Online/Home Formation Hybrid, children will complete one assigned online lesson per week in My Catholic Faith Delivered. Their progress will be monitored regularly by the catechist and director. Additionally, each family choosing Option 2 will create a sacred space in their homes, also known as a “Family Altar.” The parish will provide the basics to set up this altar, as part of the registration fee, but the families are welcome to add to it as they wish. Each month a video will be sent out to introduce families to the specific liturgical theme, and complete a simple family project on the theme. These projects range from watching a video, to praying a rosary together, completing a family service project, etc. Specific items for the completion of these projects may be sent to families if necessary. Families will either submit a photo of their project or fill out a quick online form, attesting they completed the project.
The purpose of the Sacred Space and Family Altar is to unite those gathered around it to the larger liturgical community, which has become so important during these unprecedented times. Using the liturgical calendar as our guide, those families participating in either option will be guided by the church to recognize what it means to be a Catholic Christian, and help all o as f us to understand how to live out the Christian life, no matter what comes our way, whether we can gather together or not.
In addition to the above, we will follow all of the guidelines of the archdiocese, which can be found here: https://d2y1pz2y630308.cloudfront.net/16596/documents/2020/8/Fall%202020%20Re-Opening%20Plans%20for%20Parish%20Faith%20Formation%20Programs.pdf
Classes will meet on Mondays from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
Our first group will meet on Monday, September 21, 2020. Families will be contacted in advance to let them know which group they are in. Members of the same families will be kept in the same group and we will do our best to honor carpool requests.
NOTE: Please provide valid contact information. We will e-mail, text, and call information home. Parent e-mail addresses will be used to set up their student accounts on My Catholic Faith Delivered.
